Wall art captures the spirit of wildlife
Seven primary schools across Derby took part in the Schools BioBlitz on 26 May and produced some fantastic wall art in the process.
The mini BioBlitz was the product of a close partnership between WildDerby, the University of Derby, OPAL, Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, Friends of Markeaton Park and Groundwork Derby and Derbyshire.
Over 300 children took part in a range of activities across Sturgess Fields and Markeaton Park, including creating works of nature based art.
The schools that took part included Brackensdale Junior, Lakeside Infants, Ravensdale Junior, Mickleover Primary, St Mary's RC Primary and Markeaton Primary.
The Royal School for the Deaf and Chaddesden Park Infants School also participated.
Celebration
The wall art had a real impact on the children's learning experience as it helped them to capture key information through fun and stimulating activities. Biodiversity was celebrated during the BioBlitz, and this important message can be seen throughout the artwork.
The art work was judged after the BioBlitz, and awards will be presented at a special celebration event at the University of Derby on 16 July.
