Bug Workshop Makes A Buzz
26 May 2011
Bees, butterflies and beetles were all on the agenda at the University of Derby's Insects for Beginners' Workshop.
Over twenty people came along to the event, on Saturday 14 May, which was organised to help people learn more about bugs.
Facilitated by the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Entomological Society (DaNES), the workshop featured an introductory talk and a slideshow presentation. Live specimins were also on show at the event, held in the University's laboratories on Kedleston Road.
John Millar, from DaNES, said: "We're delighted with the workshop as it went very well.
"It was especially rewarding to have enthusiastic younger people there, as they are potentially the wildlife conservationists of the future.
"The facilities at the University of Derby were appreciated by all, and it's great that the University is keen to collaborate with us.
"Working together we can raise awareness of wildlife conservation and introduce people to the fascinating world of insects".
The workshop was part of the University's programme of Community Events for 2011. Peter Walker, Community Relations Officer for the University, said: "These events are all about bringing people together to share our knowledge and enjoy all that's great about Derby.
"DaNES do so much great work and we are really grateful to be working with them.
"The workshop was a fantastic opportunity for members of the public to learn about the environment and insects, and we hope to continue this work in the future".
