The fashion students with their designs

Members of the Derby West End Bowls Club gathered at the University's Markeaton Street site on 5 March to choose a brand new club top.

Three students from the University's Fashion department were challenged by the members to design a new outfit, as part of the growing relationship between the club and University.

The winner would win a cash prize, and the knowledge that their design will be used by the club for many years to come.

During a special awards evening, the students each gave a presentation about their designs before showing them to the club members. All three were innovative and each had a unique style.

Of particular interest was the new club logo that the students had designed- the first time the logo has been altered in the club's 97 year history.

After the presentations, George Riley of the Bowls club announced the winner, Ravinder Matharu, who was presented with a cheque for £100. However, in recognition of the efforts they had made for the club, the two runners up, Lisa Shaw and Jennie Higgins were each given a reward too.

The ceremony was followed by refreshments, rounding off a thoroughly entertaining and successful evening.
