Any questions?
If you have any questions about confirmation and clearing, this page is here to help.

» What is confirmation?
When your A level, BTEC or other exam results (grades) are known, your Firm and Insurance universities will consider your place.
If you're not accepted by your first choice you'll then be considered by your second choice. If neither university accepts you, you'll go into clearing.
At Derby, if you've met the conditions of your offer, your place will be automatically confirmed. If you only just miss them you might still be accepted. We don't just look at your grades, we consider things like commitment, enthusiasm and experiences you've told us about.
If you exceed the conditions of your offer, you'll be eligible to register for adjustment.
» What if I'm offered an alternative course?
It might be that your grades aren't what you expected them to be. If they're not high enough to get you a place on the course you applied for, sometimes universities will offer you a different course instead. Find out as much as possible about the alternative, eg:
- the level (HND, foundation or degree),
- the length of the course
- the content (eg whether it offers similar professional exemptions)
If the new course isn't right for you don't worry, you can decline this offer and your insurance university will consider you. If again you're offered an alternative that isn't suitable you can decline and choose to go into clearing.
» What is adjustment?
You can register for adjustment with UCAS if you've done better then you expected and you've met and exceeded the conditions of your Firm choice offer. Then you can choose to approach a different university for a new course, while keeping your original Firm place open as a back up. You'll have a limited time to do this, and you'll have to make sure the new university still has places available on the course and can accept you.
For a detailed explanation see the UCAS website.
If you are looking for a place through adjustment, call our clearing hotline on 01332 621300 and we will discuss your options with you.
» What is clearing?
This is the final opportunity for you to find a university place. Clearing runs until mid September at UCAS - check out their clearing guide for applicants.
If you're still looking for a university place during early September, call our friendly Admissions Team on 01332 591167. You can also apply direct to us online while we still have places left and as long as you're not already in the UCAS system. These last few places get taken up fast so make your application as soon as you can.
» Am I in clearing?
You're in clearing if you haven't been accepted by either your first (firm) or second (insurance) choices, or you've declined all your offers and have chosen to go into clearing.
You only get one clearing choice so make sure you use it with the university you definitely want to go to and always phone and check they can accept you before going ahead. Once you've agreed they can accept you over the phone (this will be your verbal offer) then you'll need to log on to your UCAS Track and add the university and course details online.
UCAS will then send the details through to that university for you.
If you need help adding your clearing choice on Track, call UCAS on 0871 4680468.
» There are vacancies on my chosen course, what should I do?
Call our hotline on 01332 621300 for up-to-date information on available courses, and we will guide you through the process of getting a place.
» What if I haven’t applied through UCAS yet?
Don't worry if you haven't applied through UCAS yet - it's not too late. Have a look through our online vacancies list and see if there are vacancies on the course you want to do. Then call us on 01332 621300 and we'll guide you right through, step by step.
You can also apply online directly to us.
» When I ring, what should I expect?
We'll ask you a few basic questions before having a chat with you about all the possibilities.
We'll ask you about your qualifications and make a note of your UCAS number if you have one. Then we'll discuss which courses you qualify for.
Hopefully we'll be able to offer you a place on a course that's just right! This will be your 'verbal offer'. Make sure you give us your correct email address so we can send you important details about what to do next. It's a good idea to check your junk folder regularly too, in case any important emails from universities are caught in your spam filter.
» I've got a verbal offer, what happens next?
We'll send you an email the same day, explaining how to get your place confirmed properly. Make sure you give us your correct email address, and remember to check both your inbox and your junk folders regularly. If you don't receive anything after 24 hours, call us on 01332 621300.
» Should I go to a clearing open day?
It's a really good idea to come to our clearing open day at the Derby or Buxton campus (depending on your course). You can have a look around, and find out more about the course you want to do.
Combine your visit with a look around the vibrant city centre of Derby or the historic spa town of Buxton and the surrounding countryside, including the beautiful Peak District National Park.
» I'm ready to accept my offer, how do I do this?
If the course we've offered is right for you then you're ready to accept your verbal offer. Simply log on to your UCAS Track and add our course as your clearing choice. If you're not already in the UCAS system we'll ask you to complete an online application directly to us. Please note that you can only make your clearing choice after 6pm on Thursday 18 August.
If you're local to Derby, our Admissions Team are open to visitors at Kedleston Road - pop in and see us Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm.
We're also open specially on Saturday 20 August from 10am to 4pm and Sunday 21 August from 11am to 3pm.
Don't forget to bring copies of your qualifications with you.
» So when do I start?
Once you've had a verbal offer and added us as your clearing choice through UCAS Track, we'll let UCAS know we're confirming your place. You'll be able to log on to Track and view your confirmed place online.
Then we'll send you exact information about your induction and enrolment which you need to read carefully. For most full time undergraduate courses, teaching starts on Monday 26 September and you'll enrol either online, or in person on campus during the week starting Monday 19 September. If you're going to be living in halls of residence, you'll be able to move in any time from Saturday 17 September.
International students usually move in earlier - check our international student guide for more details.
For all the term dates, download our academic year calendar.
» How much will my course cost and what funding is available?
Like most universities we'll charge £3,375 a year if you're a full time (Home and EU) undergraduate student.
Most students take out a tuition fee loan which means you don't have to pay your fees up front when you start the course. You only have to pay this loan back when you've finished your course and are earning over £15,000 a year.

You could also get a bursary of up to £1,250 which you never have to pay back! Call our friendly Bursary Team on 01332 591584 now.
» I'm definitely coming to Derby. What else might I need to know?
We will contact you by email to ask you to re-confirm that you're definitely coming to us. Or email us at confirmyourplace@derby.ac.uk to tell us you're coming, with your name, ID number and date of birth.
