Specialism and Expertise
Fred takes an outcomes based approach to coaching and professional learning. This means his focus is on finding straight forward ways to help people, teams and organisations build on their strengths and maximise their potential in order to make a real difference to their staff, clients, customers and service users.
"Coaching is simply about raising people's awareness through active listening, great questions and direct feedback. It's about finding strengths, building confidence and taking responsibility for improving outcomes for our customers - whoever they may be".
He is co-author of 'Leading Coaching in Schools' with Jane Creasy, and lead facilitator on national Mentor Induction for Directors of Children's Services. Currently, Fred also provides coaching and action learning capacity building training for seven local authorities in the East of England.

- Research and knowledge transfer - strategy, project design and implementation
- Change leadership, systems innovation and sustainability
Qualifications
Fred has a PhD in professional learning and has worked in leadership development for over ten years in the schools sector and more recently in Children's' Services and the private sector.
Previous Clients
As a Lead Coach at the National College for School Leadership Fred coached dozens of colleagues up to Director level and was career mentor to several colleagues. Independent clients include:
- Senior university staff to Professor level
- Head teachers and other school leaders
- School governors and chairs of governors
- Children's Service managers
- Third sector managers and directors
Fred's clients describe him as thought provoking, passionate, and having a warm manner with a sharp edge that energises, inspires and motivates.
Interests and Activities
Fred is an Associate of the Virtual Staff College who provide leadership development nationally for Directors of Children's Services; he runs his own consultancy (4ldrs) focussed on learning for leadership in the schools sector, has a small property business and is a primary school governor.
