About the course

You'll develop a thorough knowledge of key topics including structures, geotechnics, fluids, infrastructure technology and management, as well as more specialised areas, such as GPS surveying and railway and highway design.

You'll look at the issues around sustainable construction methods, ethical challenges and innovation, which are essential for civil engineers.

You'll be able to go on field trips, and you can also attend industry events so you'll be kept up to date with the latest developments in the sector.

Through studying this course, you'll explore your analytical, creative and technological problem solving potential. As a graduate you'll have the knowledge and skills to start your career or you can continue your professional development and further study in the discipline of Civil Engineering.

Your career

When you graduate, you'll have lots of career opportunities in civil engineering in fields such as design, maintenance, asset management and construction.

You could work in private companies which specialise in contracting or consulting, for local authorities, water companies, Network Rail or the Highways Agency, for example.
