2012/13 changes

Understanding the changes

We've made a number of changes that have been introduced to help improve your experience and enhance your learning.

We also want to support you in becoming the best Derby graduate you can be.

From September 2012:

    • All text based assignments will be submitted electronically. ESubmission makes submitting assignments easier.

    • Grades will now be given in percentages rather than A, B and C etc.

    • Most of our undergraduate and postgraduate modules will now be worth 20 credits instead of the current 15. This means, instead of doing eight modules per year, you'll be doing six but covering topics in more depth. You'll still be taking 120 credits per year but this'll be spread over fewer modules.

    • The procedure to apply for an extension has now changed so that where circumstances beyond your control impact negatively on an assessment, you can submit a claim for exceptional extenuating circumstances

But don't worry - only students on new programmes or new to the University from September 2012 will have to pay the new fees which'll reflect the increase in the size of the module and government funding changes. For part time students that'll mean the cost of each module will be higher to reflect the increase in credits, but the cost overall will be the same. For more information about fees go to our fees page.
