What is the University of Derby Award?
It allows you to develop and maximise the benefits of activities undertaken in your spare time such as volunteering, paid work or running your own business, helping you to develop and demonstrate skills and experience employers need.
It is endorsed by the Institute of Leadership and Management. Participants have the option to register for a year's membership with the ILM (this is optional with a registration fee of £66).
Benefits of doing the University of Derby Award
Taking part in the University of Derby Award will:
- Add value to your CV, earning you a nationally recognised ILM award.
- Give you the opportunity to evidence your leadership and management skills.
- Allow you to get feedback from employers, and apply theory to practice.
- Formally recognise your life experience and work outside of your course.
- Allow you to understand what employers want and value.
What do I have to do for the University of Derby Award?
- Complete an online application form - next recruitment October 2013
- An interview with the Award Leader
- Attendance at induction and five leadership, management and employability workshops
- Leadership and management Project of 70 hours (voluntary, paid or own business)
- Regular meetings with a mentor
- Evidence - portfolio and presentation to an employer panel
- Awards event and presentation of your Derby Award certificate
The University of Derby Award takes one academic year to complete. You can start in either October or January and complete within 6-12 months.
