Volunteering

Thinking of getting valuable experience through volunteering?

Student doing voluntary work

Volunteering is a great way of developing the skills and experience employers want. We can help you find  find volunteering opportunites to improve your CV.

We also run a University of Derby Award which allows you to develop and maximise the benefits of activities undertaken in your spare time, such as part time work, volunteering, or running your own business.

What are the benefits of voluntary work?

  • It will develop valuable skills and experience - for some jobs it's essential to have experience to give yourself a chance of getting in.
  • It will give you more idea about what jobs suits you.
  • It creates networking opportunities and the chance to make useful personal contacts,
  • It will help you learn how to be part of a team and become more confident.
  • It may give you the chance to get qualifications and a reference - it could lead to a job offer on completing your course!

Work with children and vulnerable adults

If your voluntary work brings you into contact with children or vulnerable adults you may be asked to apply for a CRB check. Contact Nacro to find out more.
