1. If you are employed please give the name of the company which employs you, your role title and an outline of your duties and responsibilities. If you are unemployed please explain if you are intending to gain paid or unpaid employment or set up your own business. Please explain what kind of employers you wish to approach and what kind of roles are you interested in doing (minimum 100 words).

   

 

2 . If you already have a potential Derby Award project in mind please describe it. If not describe an ideal project (minimum 100 words).

  • Derby Award project takes minimum of 70 hours to complete. The project needs to allow you to use leadership and management skills, such as, for example, negotiation, planning, organising, delegating or project management, to name a few.
  • If you already have a potential Derby Award project in mind please give details, including who the project would be for, what your role title would be, what duties you would be undertaking as part of your role and when you would expect to undertake the project.
  • If you do not have a project in mind please explain what kind of project you would like to undertake by describing your skills, knowledge and abilities and your programme of study, your future career or your interests. You may wish to provide examples of role titles or areas of work you would be interested in working in.
   

 

3. Please describe your career aspirations (minimum 100 words).

  • Please describe one or two career ideas you are currently considering after graduation from the University. Please explain what careers you have chosen, why they interest you, what types of roles you would like to undertake in your working life and possible future employers.
   

 

4. Describe three leadership and management skills and/ or experience you hope to develop from the University of Derby Award Programme (minimum 100 words).

  • Through engaging in the Award you will undertake a leadership and management project and you will take part in five leadership, management and employability workshops. Based on your current knowledge and skills you are asked to give examples of three leadership and management skills or experiences you have or wish to develop through undertaking the Award. The skills may include working with others in a team, leading a team, engaging others, leading and managing meetings, effective methods of communication, setting objectives, time management, managing a team, managing resources or negotiation to name a few.

 

   

 

5. Describe three situations or experiences which made you believe you need to further develop your leadership and management skills (minimum 300 words).

  • Reflect on situations in your private life, at university, at work or when you volunteered. Was there a time when you felt out of depth, you lacked experience or knowledge to take effective action or deliver a project? Was there a situation where you were unable to accomplish a goal due to lack of experience or knowledge? Write three such situations or experiences describing what happened, how it made you feel and what skills you think you would benefit from to successfully deal with similar situations.

  2. As part of the application process you will be invited for an informal interview with the Award Leader.
  3. Students registering for the Award must ensure they are able to attend all the workshops, either at Derby or Buxton
