What do I need to know about psychometric tests?
Graduate recruiters and other employers often use aptitude, ability and personality tests as part of the recruitment process for placement and graduate jobs.
- Ability or aptitude tests - measure abilities such as verbal, numerical, abstract, diagrammatic or spatial reasoning skills, or assess your situational judgement or critial thinking.
- Personality tests - measure personality traits that may have an affect on your performance at work.
Finding out about psychometric tests and practicing them can give you the edge over other candidates.
Practise psychometric tests with "Profiling for Success" personality & skills assessments
A series of free online psychometric tests entitled "Profiling for Success" are available to University of Derby students, covering both personality assessment and skills tests.
Assessments that are available through Profiliing for Success are:
- Learning Styles Indicator questionnaire
- Type Dynamics Indicator (TDI) personality type questionnaire
Both of these assessments will generate reports on your own preferred behaviour which could be helpful to you in planning your careers and personal development.
- Numerical Reasoning Skills Test
- Verbal Reasoning Skills Test
- Abstract Reasoning Skills Test
These three tests will give you some information on your abilities in areas which many recruiters consider to be important in graduate jobs.
