Business networking
Want to know more about business networking?
Networking is one of the best ways of spreading the word about your business. It allows you to build useful contacts. It is not about doing the hard sell.
There are two kinds of networks:
- Formal business networks.
- Personal networks. Find out how to make the most of your personal contacts.
What are formal business networks?
Usually profit-making organisations established to facilitate business networking. They will charge either a small entry fee, or you will pay an annual subscription.
There is an increasing number of online business networking sites featuring a variety of virtual networking opportunities.
What is the networking format?
Most networking events will include two or more of the following elements:
- Informal networking, and business cards circulated.
- Formal pitches stating your name, company name, type of business and its unique selling point.
- Members, on a rota system, present their business in more detail.
- Guest speakers or a member present on a specific aspect of business.
- Formal referrals - some networking groups encourage members to refer fellow members to contacts outside the group as a way of securing clients.
