Chaplaincy Fresher's Programme

Students are having a lunch together, laughing while sitting outside

We’re looking forward to meeting all the new students this September, and we’ll be around to offer help if you need it from the time you first arrive in Buxton. If you’re staying in Halls, you should find a packet of biscuits in your kitchen from the Chaplaincy, with a note giving our contact numbers in case you need anything. Please don’t hesitate to give us a ring.

You’ll find a Chaplaincy stall in the common room at Halls when everyone’s registering on Saturday 10th September – do come and get a cuppa and say hello!

FRESHERS’ FORTNIGHT PROGRAMME

  • Sunday, 11 September: WELCOME LUNCH & WALK

We team up with volunteers from the local churches to put on a Welcome Lunch for new students.  Our brilliant hosts, David and Frances, invite us to their home close to the Dome, and everyone fills up their plate with whatever they fancy. If the weather’s good afterwards, we take a stroll to a local viewing spot to see the glories of Buxton spread out below!  Meet at the Dome gates, 12.45.

  • Thursday, 15 September: “LET THEM EAT CAKE!”

Open afternoon at the Chaplaincy, CL303, 12.30 – 4.  Come and find out where the Chaplains hang out and gorge yourself silly on tea and cake!  You don’t have to be religious, you just have to have an appetite for chocolate brownies, coffee & walnut cake, flapjacks and other sickly delights!

  • Monday, 19 September: FAIRTRADE TEA at High Peak Halls Common Room, from 4.30 until whenever the cake runs out!  For those who like to munch as they chat…
  • Tuesday, 20 September: PIT STOP PRAYERS begins in DO/115.  It’s short and informal and we provide the sandwiches.

CAFÉ EXPRESS SMOOTHIE PARTY, the launch of our fun fortnightly social event (alcohol-free). We’ll be making smoothies, chatting, playing games and questioning a panel of returning students about the things they wish someone had told them when they first came to Buxton!  Free, and open to all students, 7.30 – 9.30 in tHE Space (the HE Common Room).

  • Thursday, 22 September: FRESHERS’ FAIR – come and find our stall and sample our Fairtrade Chocolate Fountain!
  • CHRISTIAN UNION PIZZA PARTY, 6-7.30 at The Source café, 7, Terrace Rd, Buxton.  All welcome!
