Chaplaincy events and activities
Our fortnightly social event is called Café Express. You’ll find us every other Tuesday, 7.30 – 9.30 in the common room near the Dome known as tHE Space. It’s a free, fun-packed evening with games, quizzes, refreshments etc. We also go for the occasional walk in the Peak District.
The CU meets on Tuesdays for lunchtime prayers and sandwiches (DO/115, 12.30 – 1) and on Thursday evenings for chat, prayer and Bible study and the occasional outing to the pub! This year we’re re-launching, so we hope to find a President, Secretary and Treasurer by Christmas. Until then, for more info please contact Chaplain Ali.
Every Monday in term-time you’ll find us in the Common Room at High Peak Hall giving out free fairtrade tea, coffee and freshly-made cake from 4.30 until about 6 or whenever the cake runs out… though if you know you’re going to be running late, it has been known for Ali to put aside a slice for you! It’s a chance to meet friendly people and catch up on the chat. Come and join us!

FAIRTRADE, JUSTICE & PEACE
You’ll have gathered by now that we’re really into fairtrade – we believe it makes a huge difference for some of the world’s poorest people. As well as the weekly Fairtrade Tea, we organise special events for Fairtrade Fortnight each year (February or March).
We support the local Food Bank with a Christmas collection of food items, and we’re always looking for volunteers to get a year-round collection going on the campus. Let us know if you’re interested! We’ve also been collecting goods for Syrian refugees in partnership with Buxton’s Hummingbird Centre.
Last October we invited local Quakers to put on an exhibition showing African peace-makers, to mark Black History Month. If you have ideas for further campaigns you think we should be promoting, let us know!
