Transition Buxton

Transition Buxton

Transition Buxton raises awareness of environmental, food and transport issues as well as the world’s over-reliance on fossil fuels. It also sets up projects, such as the Serpentine Project, to develop schemes that would make a real difference in the community.

The University of Derby assists Transition Buxton through its support of the Serpentine Project.

The Serpentine Project

Transition Buxton with High Peak Borough Council, Buxton Town Team, the University of Derby and Buxton and Leek College are working towards turning a disused local authority plant nursery over to community use as a teaching facility where food can be grown once again. The facility would be open to the general public for classes in horticulture and gardening skills, while any produce would be sold on to supply the University's catering school and other local restaurants.

The University of Derby was a founder member of the Project steering group, and supports it through grants and administrative work.
