Arriving in September

Moving in

International students

When you have accepted the offer for a place on a course you can start to plan your journey from overseas.

It's a good idea to let the International Department know when you are arriving in the UK so they can support you.

You may also want to book the University's Meet and Greet Service for students arriving at UK airports. The service is free but you should book in advance and there will be more information about this coming soon.

More information on the international welcome and induction.

All other students

When you have accepted the offer for a place on your course you can start to plan moving in to halls. Most people move into halls during Welcome Weekend and we recommend that you arrive on our official Welcome Day which will be Saturday 10 September 2016. Welcome day is when the majority of people arrive so most students will be settling in together and there is also a special event at night for Freshers.

In June we will be asking you to let us know when you're arriving and book your arrival slot even if you are not coming on Welcome Day.

Don't worry if you can't move in on that day - it's easy enough to make alternative arrangements. Please contact your Hall Manager to arrange when you will be arriving.

Moving into halls before or after Welcome Weekend

Moving into halls in Derby

On the Saturday, please go to the University at Kedleston Road before moving into halls. Our staff will give you details about moving into your hall and will be on hand to answer any questions you or your family may have.

Moving into halls in Buxton

If you are moving into High Peak Halls in Buxton, you'll need to go straight to the hall.  Further details about moving in at Buxton will be posted on this page and the High Peak Halls Facebook page nearer the time.

Car parking

There's limited car parking at each of our halls and it tends to get very busy when everyone's arriving. So you'll only be able to leave your car on site while you unpack. Don't worry though, there are plenty of car parks nearby and there's metered street parking near most of our halls, where you can usually stay for up to four hours.

Even if you have been allocated an annual parking permit we ask you to park your car or motorbike off site at the weekend so that people arriving can unpack.
