Q. Apart from hall fees, what else will I need to pay for?

Laundry (essential)

Each hall has its own laundry.  Machines are operated by a top up card which you load money onto online.

Parking (optional)

Car parking at halls is extra.  Here are the prices:

Annual parking permit

At halls you can store your bike or kayak (Buxton) free of charge.

Once you have been allocated a room we will email you a parking application form.  Please bear in mind that some halls have very few parking spaces.  If your hall has run out of parking spaces you may be offered alternative parking at a nearby hall.

At halls you can store your bike or kayak (Buxton) free of charge.

Internet top ups (optional)

Your communication package includes Wifi for four devices (except at Flamsteed Court where it is for up to six devices) but there are optional top-ups you can purchase through Ask4, our internet provider.

Insurance top-ups  (optional)

Your halls package includes room contents insurance up to the value of £5000 but you may want some insurance top ups for expensive gadgets like phones and laptops which you take outside your room.  If you bring a bicycle to halls and store it in the bike shed with a D-lock it is covered while it is at halls but again you may need other cover for when you take it out and about.  It is worth checking to see if these things are covered by your parents' home insurance policy.

TV licence (legal requirement)

You need a TV licence to watch or record TV programmes live or on 'catch up'. Remember please don’t bring a TV to halls as you can watch Freeview TV through your PC, laptop or hand held device.

Other things

Don't forget you will need to have money for food, text books, course materials and your social life!
