Tourism Management

Inspiring careers in the tourism industry

Situated on the edge of the Peak District, one of the busiest National Parks in the UK attracting over 8 million visitors each year, Buxton is a living, breathing case study of how tourism works. As a leading spa and hospitality town, alongside its inspiring landscapes, magnificent stately homes and exciting outdoor pursuits, and with access to 38,000 tourism businesses in the area, it is easy to understand why Buxton is the perfect choice to study your tourism degree.

Our enthusiastic and passionate tutors draw on their many years’ experience and contacts within the industry to provide the commercial and academic learning employers expect. In an ever-increasing competitive environment, it is the unique, real world learning that makes you stand out to future employers.

You’ll have opportunities for work experience and placements as our area hosts many events including the Peak Food Fair and Buxton Fringe Festival and we have contacts with organisations such as the National Trust, Rayburn Travel and Chatsworth House. You’ll have the opportunity to study with our partners in China and Botswana and take part in fieldtrips in the UK and overseas.

You’ll gain membership of the Tourism Management Institute through your studies and have the opportunity to meet and network with industry professionals. As a department, we are actively involved with many research projects, studying the growth of wellness tourism, dark tourism and the impact of sustainable tourism.
