Why I chose to study a degree

I feel that a degree is useful as it allows you to explore a subject that you're particularly interested in to a certain depth that really stimulates your mind. It allows you to discover which areas of a subject are suited to you and gives you a good basis for deciding which career path to take when you graduate.
A degree is a pass ticket to the beginning of a potentially very successful career and it allows you to jump a little higher onto that ladder of life more quickly!

Studying at Derby

I have studied a range of modules including: international trade and globalisation, service marketing management, leadership and management, finance and business performance and business improvement. I have thoroughly enjoyed these modules and I have gained an interesting insight from a variety of researched perspectives. I have put together various reports and comparison essays and case studies that have been an exciting challenge.

Some of the lecturers at Derby are very experienced in their fields and they know what they're talking about. You can be confident that what're you're learning is of excellent quality. They are very supportive if you have any queries and are more than willing to help you.

I have a made a couple of good friends throughout my time studying here. Many of my friends have now graduated and have gone to have successful careers with well known companies. I keep in touch and it's great to have a catch up and remember our good times in Derby out and about in town.

The facilities at Derby are continuously improving and are getting better all the time. A lot of money is being invested all the time to make the University better for its students. Derby really is an up and coming University and it has a modern feel to it which really fits in with the fast paced society we live in today.

The placement experience

I am currently on a placement year here at the University itself working as a Marketing Assistant in the Marketing Department. I have developed so many skills throughout the placement and acquired so much experience. I'd recommend a placement to every student taking business, as it really puts things into context and creates an awareness of the professional element of business. It opens your eyes as to what the real working environment is like and it takes you on a journey that helps you to find yourself as well.

Highs and lows

The course is as challenging and rewarding as you make it, if you go the extra mile you'll get the top grades and you'll find yourself building up a mass knowledge that is invaluable. If you open your mind and take it all in and go deeper and deeper you really do find what you're looking for and that is the satisfaction of how far you can go with something. The reward is being in the element of engaging the mind and discovering something new and learning more and more.

Bringing learning to life

Having studied first at a redbrick institution and then having studied here, I would honestly say that Derby is the place I'd want to be. Derby treats you as an individual and gives you that guidance when you need it and that bit of support when you're a little off track. Derby cares and wants everyone to succeed no matter who you are.

There are so many opportunities available and Derby pushes you to take them, go and lead in something and make the best out of your life. It's a good place to be and there is a real atmosphere of security and a welcoming feel.

I believe Derby is a real up and coming University and Derby as a city has great potential to grow being at the heart of the country. We should watch this space and give credit where credit is due, Derby has some very successful graduates and hopefully I'll be another to prove this!
