Teresa won The Davina Hall Achievement Award for 2009. She studied the Masters in Human Resource Management.

Winning the award

I feel very honoured. It's fantastic to be recognised in such a way, particularly as I was selected to receive the award by my peers.

Why Derby?

I had already completed my degree in Business Studies as a part time student at Derby, which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was important to me that I could gain CIPD qualifications in order to enter the profession I'd chosen and so I decided to stay at Derby to do this.

I'd just been made redundant and decided to change my career.  Returning to Derby made me feel confident in the choice I had made. It was the first and most important step in achieving my career aspirations.

Putting my degree into practice

I'm now working as a Learning and Development Design Consultant at E.ON UK, working within HR Corporate Centre. My studies at Derby have allowed me to question, challenge and explore different options and consider the bigger picture.

I feel more confident and credible in my dealings with my stakeholders and I'm able to present proposals which are intellectually rigorous, pragmatic and commercially focused. It's also interesting to observe and discuss many of the parallels of my own organisation with those explored during the course.

Looking to the future

I'm focussing on building my portfolio of learning design project work, in particular developing cost effective learning solutions and carrying out internal research for my organisation. Longer term, I'd like to return to more formal learning.

I have a firm belief in lifelong learning and personal and professional development. They are incredibly important for employability and adaptability within the ever changing world of work.
