“My work involves Business Development, Human Resource Management, General Management and Leadership, and intrestingly my degree equipped me to perform effectively in all these areas so I'm not limited to only HR practices”
– Kwasi Agyeman Manu Senya

Kwasi was an international student from Ghana and graduated in 2010 with a MSc Human Resourse Management.

Leaning from experience

In bridging theory and practice, the teaching offered at every point sort to identify what was mere rhetoric and what could actually be made practical. These were often done through case study examples and at the invitation of guest lecturers. The learning facilities were just precise to facilitate knowledge acquisition through group discussions, independent studies and research works.

Career boost from the course

I now work as an associate at Edison Chouest Offshore Ghana Limited. My work involves Business Development, Human Resource Management, General Management and Leadership, and intrestingly my degree equipped me to perform effectively in all these areas so I'm not limited to only HR practices. We also studied other essential business areas such as Marketing, Strategic Management, Statistics, Accounting, Finance and Operations Management.

Derby stood out

I chose Derby because of the ese in the application process for international students, the history and the industrial platform of the city, but most importantly the ambiance and structure of learning that it promised.

I got involved with the local community, which helped me to settle in and make friends, I had a lot support from both the university and my local church. The people of Derby are very welcoming and supportive.

Grasping all opportunities

I had the opportunity to become a representitive on the Faculty Council Board and i was also elected the Postgraduate Students Officer with the Students' Union , this gave me the chance to sit on high level university meetings, gaining some invaluable experience that would look good to potentail employers. I also under took the ILM endoursed Derby Award with the Career Development Centre, where I did a project with Village Aid.

A top recommendation

I will readily recommend a degree at Derby to anyone, especially to international students. There are a variety of specialist courses, a majority of which in the Derby Business School  are professionally accredited, so a student complete with both the academic certification as well as the professional one.
