Ana Dorr - MSc International Business

Winner of Freeth Cartwright Prize for Academic and Research Excellence

Ana Dorr’s career journey has taken her from Spain to the USA – via a ‘life-changing’ study experience at the University of Derby. The MSc International Business graduate is now combining her business know-how with her language skills to boost her company’s expansion plans.

Ana works in Nebraska for the support team at Reality-Based Leadership, a high-profile development and training company. Her role centres on promoting the successful leadership philosophy of New York Times best-selling author and speaker Cy Wakeman, translating it into Spanish and introducing it to the Spanish-speaking world.

A certified facilitator, she is the first person in the company to deliver the Reality-Based training content in both English and Spanish.

Ana’s route to success began at one our partnership institutions, the Escuela Internacional de Gerencia in Granada, where she spent three years working towards a degree in International Business Management. Having come to Derby to top up her qualification with the BA (Hons) International Business and Finance, she was inspired to continue her studies to achieve the MSc.

“In comparison with other universities, Derby offered a better overall range of business courses to match what I was looking for,” she explains. “The top-up opportunity completely opened up my perspectives on the possibilities in the business market and helped me set myself apart from other candidates.”

Ana’s studies gave her a thorough grounding in all aspects of international business – something which she now finds helpful every day in her working life. She highlights a recent agreement with Mexican clients which will see Reality-Based Leadership expand into new markets in Latin America. She says that what she learned at Derby “did an amazing job” in preparing her to help take the partnership forward.

Looking back at her study experience, she singles out the University staff for particular praise. “They were so helpful in giving advice – both personal and academic – when I was far away from home. They would take the time to discuss what were the best steps to further my career.”

She concludes: “I would definitely say that studying at the University of Derby was one of the best decisions I could have ever made. It has changed my life!”

"Studying my masters at the University of Derby has been once of the most rewarding experiences I could ever have had."
