Hello, my name is Ali Wahid and I come from Lebanon

I'm studying the Masters in Marketing.

Choosing a university is a big decision

However at the University of Derby all the information needed to make my choice with confidence were easily met.

The University has a unique way of treating its students as individuals

It is emphasised in its teaching approach, plus the advantage of being allocated a tutor to act as an academic adviser.

As a student, I have had access to a wide network of support services.

The International Office is both supportive and efficient to deal with any queries.

The Students' Union offers many opportunities to get involved

Students automatically become members of the Students' Union which provides a wealth of opportunities to become fully integrated into the life of the University and the wider community. There are activities for all, and the opportunity to make your own society or club.

So far during my programme, I have been able to develop my existing knowledge and understanding

I have vastly benefited from the mixture of assessments: oral presentation, reports, essays, and examinations, in ways that will surely allow me to transform a more in depth awareness and perception to the work field.

It has been very important for me to try and maintain a healthy balance between working hard and taking time out to relax and enjoy myself

Derby possesses all the attributes for such an atmosphere.

I was able to form a five-aside football team with my colleagues called 'International FC' where we participated in a league at a local sports centre and finished off the season as champions.

As an elected student representative, I had the opportunity to attend two programme committees

I have observed how points raised were followed through and acted upon in ways to offer students a higher quality of services, eliminate any areas of student concerns and offer a better learning experience.

Derby is a modern city that is close to some fantastic open spaces

Having visited many cities in England during my stay, I can classify Derby as being a modern city which has a major advantage of having residential areas in close proximity of the city centre and fantastic parks and open spaces, including the Peak District and the National Forest for those who admire and enjoy being in the presence of beautiful landscapes as myself.

What I have noticed is that the UK is a culturally diverse and tolerant society, which is proud of its rich heritage and traditions

The more cities I visited the more I have been mesmerised by a diverse landscape, ranging from the vibrancy and architectural splendour of cities with their distinctive regional character, to the stunning beauty of its countryside and its many historical landmarks.

I've had the opportunity to make friends from all nations

Spain, Nigeria, Libya, Cyprus, France, Jordan, England, Poland, Qatar, Pakistan, China and India to name a few - something I would have not had the chance to do back home.

I have learned a great deal from these diverse cultures and hopefully also portrayed the wonderful attributes that my country has been able to instil in me.
