Volunteering Fair 2017

Our annual Volunteering Fair will take place in the first semesters of the 2017-18 academic year at the Kedleston Road site.

This is a free event which aims to:

  • Promote your organisation and current opportunities to the University's staff and students and the local community
  • Help you to recruit motivated volunteers
  • Network with other charities and not-for-profit organisations

If you would like to be added to our mailing list to make sure you are first to know about the Volunteering Fair please email us.

Please note that the Fair is not open to organisations providing overseas volunteering as it is for students, staff and members of the public looking to volunteering in the local area.

If you are unable to attend the Volunteering Fair please let us know of any volunteering opportunities that you wish to promote at the event. You are welcome to send any flyers, posters or literature relating to your organisation’s opportunities which we can display on the day.

Follow us on Twitter @DerbyUniVol and #DerbyUniVolFair to keep up to date in the run up to the event.

Promoting opportunities

Students volunteer to develop the skills and experience employers are looking for while having a positive impact on their local community. To promote an opportunity on our vacancy site you first need to create an account. Whether the opportunity is for one day or a regular weekly commitment you will need a detailed role description reflecting the task, time, location and length of commitment.

We promote volunteering opportunities via our social media accounts, noticeboards, directly to students and academics on relevant courses.

We love hearing about the fantastic things our students are involved in so please get in touch if you host a student volunteer and would like to celebrate their contribution.

Futures Award

All students can get recognition for volunteering they do whilst at the University of Derby through our Futures Award. The extra-curricular award recognises students for their engagement in volunteering with an internal or external host. The award is designed to help students to make the most of their volunteering experience, reflect and articulate the skills they develop and their relevance to future employment opportunities.

The Futures Award is also recorded on the Higher Education Achievement Record (HEAR) which they receive on graduation.

Sports Volunteering

Students' Union recruits Sports Volunteers to support the delivery of sport both at the University and within the local community. If your organisation is interested in hosting student volunteers for sports-specific events or activities find out more and contact volunteering@udsu.co.uk.

Students’ Union

With a focus on providing ongoing volunteering opportunities and supporting student-led projects, Union Volunteers prides itself on making a positive impact within the local community. Recent projects include our ‘Rooted’ allotment project which aims to provide opportunities for both staff and students to get involved in green growing activities, the Age Exchange programme which sees students supporting elderly residents in the local area, our Green Champions positions for sustainability advocates and many more. For more information contact the UDSU Volunteering Coordinator Lucy Giuliano or visit the Students’ Union website.
