Derby partners University of Pasundan

The University Strategic Partnerships Unit recently coordinated the visit to the University of a delegation of senior academics from the University of Pasundan, Indonesia. The visit led to the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will see the University of Pasundan working with Derby’s Department of Law and Criminology to tackle the trade in labour exploitation.

Kevin Bampton, Head of the Department of Law, Criminology and Social Sciences at Derby, said: “The University of Pasundan has marked itself as a distinctive Indonesian voice in International Education.

“The desire to focus on a partnership that starts with countering the trade in labour exploitation reflects how progressive our Indonesian partners are, as well as the growing profile of the University of Derby, which has become a centre of excellence in this area of

The delegation which included academics from a variety of disciplines met colleagues from the University’s College of Engineering and Technology and an agreement was reached on the next steps for progressing a number of other exciting joint research projects, one of which included shipping law and logistics, with an emphasis on the issues around piracy in the region.

Vice Chancellor, Professor John Coyne, added: “I was delighted to welcome our Indonesian partners to Derby. Our institutions have got so much synergy and I look forward to developing a prosperous partnership with the University of Pasundan.”
