Welcome from Head of International Partners

As the Head of International Partnerships for the University Strategic Partnerships Unit (USPU), I am delighted to wish you warm welcome to our International Partnerships pages.

With circa 8,000 students studying University of Derby awards through our international collaborative partnerships, the University boasts a number of long standing mature partnerships including Vakalo Art & Design College (Greece), Swiss Education Group which includes IHTTI School of Hotel Management, Swiss Hotel Management School and Cesar Ritz (Switzerland), Malawi Institute of Management (Malawi), Botswana Accountancy College (Botswana) and Mediterranean College (Greece).

The University also shares pride in welcoming new partners including Aventis School of Management (Singapore) since November 2012, BAC International Education Pathway (Bangladesh) since January 2013, Royal Malaysian Police (Malaysia) since September 2013, Hubei University of Nationalities (China) since February 2014, HELP University (Malaysia) since March 2014,  EU Business School (Barcelona and Munich) since July 2014 and Stenden University of Applied Sciences (The Netherlands) since September 2015. In addition to which, my team are responsible for the management and oversight of Erasmus Plus, with which we have 48 partners and growing rapidly along with 19 Progression and Articulation Agreements.

Since its creation in 2014, USPU has undertaken numerous sizeable projects which have served to inform the University’s International Partnerships Strategy. Through the process of consultation with our partners and in depth market research, USPU and the wider University utilises the strategy to unlock the opportunities for deepening and broadening our collaborative activities, with the student at the heart of every decision.

In preparation for the forthcoming QAA HER that is due to commence in April 2016, USPU is working closely with the University’s Learning Enhancement Team and the University’s Colleges, identifying how USPU can support the University and its partners throughout the process to ensure we continue to show the excellent service offered to students.

As Head of International Partnerships I am member of the International Steering Group, the International Operations Group and the Collaborative Provisions Sub Committee, where I represent our International Partners interests.  Furthermore, I chair the Mediterranean College Operations Group and co-chair the Partnerships Operations Group (POG) with my colleague, Carleen Osborne (Head of UK Academic Partnerships).  The POG membership includes key stakeholders from across the University who either manage or are involved in collaborative provision. We meet monthly to share success stories and good practice, identify areas for improvement and seek solutions with the aim of strengthening our offering through partnerships.
