Collaborative Conference 2016

‘Delivering transformational relationships in a time of change’

The University Strategic Partnerships Unit was thrilled to welcome over 160 delegates to the twelfth annual Collaborative Conference at the Buxton Dome on 5 July 2016.

Professor Kath Mitchell, attending her first Collaborative Conference in her role as Vice-Chancellor, gave the key note presentation. Professor Judith Lamie, our new Pro Vice-Chancellor for External Affairs, served as a Panel member at the event.

The title ‘Delivering transformational relationships in a time of change’ was chosen to reflect the challenges that are presented to partnerships in the current political and educational environment, whilst focusing on the University of Derby’s aim to deliver a best in class service by developing partnerships to their full potential. This was particularly timely, considering the Brexit and first feedback from the Higher Education Review audit.

Following delegate feedback on the last Collaborative Conference, new for 2016 was the ‘Partner Gallery’ – a poster exhibition profiling our Collaborative Partners. 14 partners took up the opportunity to showcase their partnerships with the University and to celebrate their students’ successes.

The Collaborative Conference provided an opportunity for University of Derby colleagues involved in partnership work to meet with representatives of our UK and Global partners. In a change to previous years, the Learning and Teaching Conference was held on the previous day. This meant that the Fine Dining event preceded the Collaborative Conference, which allowed partners and University of Derby staff to meet beforehand.

The conference was coincided with the Summer Court, meaning that University Court members were able to attend the panel and plenary session.

Conference attendees were invited to attend the ‘10 Years in Buxton’ celebration, held on the Dome Floor, which provided a fitting end to the Conference.
