New Student Services Centre

The Student Support Centre has been made friendlier and more modern.

You told us you wanted a friendlier and more modern place to ask about support so we’ve spent around £56,000 improving the Student Support Centre in B Block at Kedleston Road. Because there will be more space and a better layout we’re hoping to reduce queues and give you a much better experience when you come to see us.

We’ve now got a new large reception in the centre of the space with two smaller reception points for the Programme Advisory Service and the Support and Advisory Service. Putting these two services here helps to make them more visible and approachable for you.

You’ve got new technology in the centre so that you can use it as a one stop shop. There are two new touch screen information points in the self help information area. You can also get on to UDo and use the new Ask us service, designed to help you get quick answers to your key questions electronically, without having to email, ring or queue at the Student Support Centre counter.

You can also catch up on the latest information via a large plasma screen in this area and we’ve brought everything up to date with a fresh purple, lime green and white colour scheme - so no more grey and deep red.

We know that Derby being environmentally friendly is important to you so we’ve done our best to reduce the impact of these changes. The existing chairs have been re-upholstered and we’ve recycled the majority of the previous reception desk to be used in other parts of the University.

We hope that we’ve managed to create a more welcoming environment for you as well as improving the way we help you find the information you need.
