Exciting Careers

"As a Textile Design student, I won the Annapurna Award - an international knitwear competition - and I was thrilled when those designs went into production in Italy. Now I'm working as a fully fledged designer, it's still just as exciting when I see my new knitwear designs in Monsoon, Jaeger and Hawkshead." - Gemma Hampshire, Textiles graduate.
Our BA (Hons) Textiles course is offered at our Markeaton Street building. As well as our sophisticated textiles equipment - from laser cutting to digital sewing and knitting machines - there are crafts workshops for wood, metal, ceramics, plaster, coloration and jewellery, so you can get your hands dirty!
You could also join the thriving community of artists, designers and makers who have businesses at the University's Banks Mill Studios. As well as providing workspace, we provide business support activity including one-to-one advice, workshops, seminars and bi-annual Open Studios.
Dare to be different
Our courses are all about alternative thinking and visual exploration. We encourage you to be original so you're able to think for yourself, come up with your own creative ideas and be fearless in the use of new technology.
Get experience abroad
You could choose to study or work abroad for an extended period to broaden your skills and experience. We've got good links with companies in Europe and universities in Austria and Finland, plus we've had over 150 overseas students study Textiles and Fashion with us, so there are lots of international networking opportunities.
