Macmilllan Prize for Children's Illustration
Emily Falconer and Catherine Sweetman, BA (Hons) Illustration students, have both been Highly Commended in the Macmilllan Prize for Children's Illustration.
This is a national competiton run annually by Macmilllan Publishing with thousands of entires from art schools across the country. There are three prize winners and Emily and Catherine are two of approximately 15 Highly Commended students, mostly from MA programmes.
Catherine says "In today's makeover culture we have become obsessed with order and tidiness in the home. My project 'Mess' suggests that mess should be celebrated as it is a sign of life. I have created a picture book for young children that has no words and avoids traditional narrative. My aim has been to encourage the child to create their own narrative through the mess they see in the pictures. The book then has many stories to tell and is only limited by a child's own imagination."
Have a look at the pictures below to see examples of the work Emily and Catherine entered into the competition.
