In October 2010, our University was one of the hosts of the first UK Young Artists (UKYA) event.

The event took place across Derby's major arts venues and other places, which enabled the festival to reach a wide audience.

Selected artists came to Derby for four days to initiate networking and cultural activity as well as participate in associated workshops and seminars.

This was a chance for our students, staff and others to meet an up and coming generation of artists, exchange ideas and views with young artists from across a broad spectrum of art forms, and get involved in exciting new ideas and projects.

Of the artists represented at the UKYA event, a small number have been selected to represent the UK at this year's International Biennale of Young Artists of Europe and the Mediterranean (BJCEM).

Students from our University have been involved in the last two BJCEMs, both as exhibitors and as volunteers. Anna Mawby, a Fine Art graduate exhibited in Bari in 2008 and James Russell, a Multimedia Technology and Music Production  final year student was in charge of developing the workshop programme for the UKYA event in October.
