The Surface Gallery

I found that the skills I had acquired in the exhibition module of the Fine Art course were invaluable in putting together my installation at the Surface Gallery.

Two of our graduate students exhibited their work at the Surface Gallery. Joanna John and Andrew Sugars both studied BA (Hons) Fine Art.

"I was thrilled to have the opportunity to exhibit in the East Midlands Finest Exhibition. It was great to be involved with an established gallery, work with their team and meet other artists from across the Midlands."

"It really kept me focused on making art after the degree show had finished, and I found that the skills I had acquired in the exhibition module of the course were invaluable in putting together site-specific installation at the Surface Gallery."

"My work is to do with the built environment, maps and aerial views and everything I use is recycled material which centres around my overall theme of consumerism and waste."

Joanna is a member of ArtCentric, which is a group of six members on our fine art course.

Andrew Sugars

"I see my piece of work very much as an aesthetic statement about something that may or may not happen in our futures".

"It was fantastic to be selected for the Surface Gallery. I have begun to further develop my sculptural approach to media practice and I will look forward to more opportunities in the near future."

Andrew's work at the Degree Show was selected for the Surface Gallery's graduate show East Midland's Finest. The work used was a piece of sculptural new media developed from a short film called Aesthetic of evolution. This was also used at QUAD where a lot of our creative students get invovled. Andrew's inspiration came from the notion of peak oil.
