Classic corsets with a hi-tech twist

Women's corset and underwear styles from almost 100 years ago have been given new life thanks to BA (Hons) Fashion Studies student Laura Mansell, who based her designs on the elegant corsetry and lingerie of the 1920's.
Laura explained: "I wanted to design and produce garments that were both sexy and sophisticated, which would make women feel confident in the boudoir. These are my own designs, inspired by the styles of the 1920s. There was a lot of quite intricate trimming to produce and to get that just right I needed help from current technology."
"Instead of a traditional paper pattern, I used computer programs like Photoshop and APS Ethos to create a design, which I could change onscreen quite easily. I then used laser cutting software to cut out the pattern in the materials."
Laura's creations for the Graduate Fashion Show are the culmination of four years' of work, including a work placement at Nottingham boutique Eternal Spirits, which has just made corsets for pop group Girls Aloud.
