Jen makes prospectus picture perfect
Jen Miles, a freelance photographer based in Derby, has helped to create our new style undergraduate prospectus.
Jen, who graduated from our BA (Hons) Commercial Photography degree course, said:
"When I heard I'd been chosen to get involved with the new style prospectus I was extremely pleased and excited to be able to take on the challenge."
"Having grown up around Derby and attended the University myself it was a fantastic opportunity to get involved and really help show just what there is on offer."
Jen was asked to contribute to the new look University prospectus because her work is stylish, unique, dynamic, modern and fun; which reflected the needs of the re-design.
About Jen
Jen has her own business called Gravity Rides which she set up when she was a student at Derby, and by the time she graduated, her work had already been published.
In 2007, she gained a D&AD award and after a small exhibition at Derby Dance (DEDA) she registered her company, sometimes taking on unpaid work to establish herself.
Since graduating she has worked for Westfield Derby, on various projects including Children in Need, a student event with Radio 1 DJ Vernon Kay, and a large food shoot for their website.
Jen's other projects have included a longstanding contract for the household name, Denby Pottery, which required product shots as well as shots at James Martin's live cooking event at Birmingham NEC.
Her success has allowed Jen to buy more equipment to take her work in different directions like live music and extreme sports events.
The 2011 version
The 2011 prospectus is much more environmentally friendly as course information is printed on demand rather than in bulk. It is estimated that it will halve the amount of paper previously used supporting the University's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.
Lucy Temple - the University's Web and Publications Manager who coordinated this innovative new approach - said: "We wanted to develop a prospectus for prospective students which had a 'wow' factor when it dropped through their letterbox; whilst also supporting our graduates, like Jen, with their career."
"Rather than just talk about how great our graduates are we wanted to show it and put our money where our mouth is by employing Jen for this project."
