Mini mosaic
Stratstone Mini dealership in Derby asked second year students from the BA (Hons) Commercial Photography course to produce an image for a lightbox in their showroom, in time for the launch of the new Mini Clubman.
The image was to be made up of smaller square images of key locations within the Derbyshire area. Each image had to show the mini in a new and funky way, in line with their brand image.
Each image was 15cm so to produce a 6m x 2m mosaic 533 images were needed. Twenty students worked on the project so that meant they had to provide 27 prints each. Chris Howard, of Cactus Images, compiled the artwork by loading all the images into a mosaic software package and added the mini logo. The artwork was then tweaked and upsized to its full print resolution.
Chris commented "Being able to liaise with a high profile client has given me exposures to a real project brief complete with the pressure of delivering on time, on spec, and on budget. A challenge that delivered a great sense of achievement."
