The Faculty of Arts, Design and Technology proudly hosted the Association of Illustrators' Image 35 Exhibition: Best of British Illustration 2011 from Monday 5 December to Saturday 4 February at our Markeaton Street site.

Images 35 showcased work by the UK's most talented illustrators, including new work from up and coming British talent, including some of our own graduates.

A selection of 90 artworks are on display in a book sold worldwide and in the national touring exhibition. Work has been selected by an expert panel of internationally acclaimed judges, who have chosen work by talented illustrators who have made a significant contribution to the industry over the last year.

Student Success

Graduates of the University's BA (Hons) Illustration degree whose work is featured in Images 35 include:

Work by Marketa Lukasova, 30, a graduate of the BA (Hons) Graphic Design course has also been chosen.

Heather Horsley, who graduated in January 2011, and has a studio at the University's Banks' Mill Studios business incubation units in Derby, said: "My entry was called Roadside Cafes. The aim of it was to visually explore and comment upon the environment surrounding roadside cafes; observing and interpreting the relationship and connections between the place, the products and people who chose to use the cafes."

Richard Levesley, Programme Leader for the BA (Hons) degrees in both Illustration and Animation, added: "We are very proud of our students' success in this competition.

"Their achievement shows that they all have strong and individual ways of working. They are challenging their subject, moving with trends and developing innovative approaches to illustration; proving themselves to be strong competitors within the industry."
