Why choose this course?

  • It's the first design course in the UK ever to be accredited by the Chartered Society of Designers (CSD).
  • We've worked with professional architectural and interior architectural practices to design this unique course, which gives you high-level vocational training
combined with academic theories and contextual research.
  • You'll focus on studio-based work, which culminates in live projects, design exhibitions, competitions and your final year Degree Show.
  • It combines traditional hand based visual studies, physical modelling and computer aided design, including building information modelling (BIM), so you can explore your design concepts in a more innovative manner.

About the course

During this course you'll be constantly challenged to conceptualise, investigate and develop the design of three dimensional spaces, understanding the ways that architectural and interior design histories and theories and the existing physical and cultural context can inform design processes, programmes and proposals. You'll be encouraged to develop an ethos of producing socially, culturally and environmentally responsive design proposals, drawing upon the best practice and expertise within the School.

The course covers a wide range of venue designs that offer exciting areas of study, ranging from interior architectural design of bars, restaurants, night clubs and multipurpose venue spaces to the design of hotels and resorts. You'll look at planning and design of live performance spaces, social and community places, theme and amusement parks, sports architecture, film and stage architecture, exhibition spaces, galleries, brand retail and museums to name a few.

If you want to gain work experience, you can take an optional work placement between stages two and three during which you'll gain an additional qualification, the Diploma in Professional Practice.

This course is professionally accredited by the Chartered Society of Designers.

You'll study this course full time, or part time. Day release for part time study is subject to the course timetable.

If you don't have the appropriate qualifications to start this course, you can study Year Zero for a year first.
