Learning Beyond Registration (LBR) is a vital part of developing competent, capable health service practitioners prepared to deliver a dynamic, flexible, quality, client-focused service. If you're employed by the NHS in the East Midlands then you may be eligible for fee-free access to our LBR modules and/or programmes. You'll need to supply evidence of approval from your line manager and Trust Education Lead when you apply.
About this module
All health professionals have a requirement to promote health and this module allows nurses and other health professionals to consider what health and health improvement are and examine differing approaches to improving health, from taking an individual perspective to a community development approach.
- The recent historical background of the health promotion movement and its relevance to current debates in a UK context will be examined.
- Definitions and meanings of Health, Health Promotion and Health Improvement within the current policy context will be discussed.
- Socio-medico determinants of health will be examined.
- The relevance of the World Health Organisation and its impact on the development of health promotion will be introduced.
- Debate and discussion about models of health promotion.
- Approaches to health promotion in terms of the individual, the family and the community will be discussed.
- Barriers to promoting health with the individual, the family and the community will be examined.
- Discussion on approaches to evaluating health promotion programmes will occur.
