Phil tells us what he does now

I'm the Managing Director of Fluid which is separated into two areas of business; Fluid Media the online strand and Fluid Ideas the creative design side. When we launched in 2003 there were just two members of staff, today Fluid employs 7 with another person coming on board soon.
The difference with Fluid is every member of the team works on creative projects, pushing for very high standards. We work closely with our clients to get under the skin of their brief, making sure we deliver an excellent service.

We work closely with businesses based in Derby city, across the UK and in the following countries; France, Switzerland, Spain, Australia creating brands, literature, exhibitions and websites.

How do you feel Derby has helped you with your career so far?

The course at UOD was unique in the sense that we were allowed limited access to computers to encourage us to concentrate on the "idea". This meant I left with a creative, yet commercial portfolio that demonstrated a good mix ideas which is important when you're going for a job interview. The lecturers on the course made sure I had the skills I needed for my career.

What are your future plans?

To maintain and push Fluid's high standards and ethos. To win new and interesting business, yet make sure we offer our existing clients the very best, innovative work.

What would you say to anybody thinking of coming to study the course at Derby?

Derby is a great place to achieve your goals and, if you put your mind to it you can achieve anything, I know because I did.

How would you sum up the experience of studying this course?

It was a great three years of my life which I look back at with great fondness. The lecturers really helped with problem solving not giving you the solution, more giving you the tools to find the solution. Plus they were always there if you needed them.
