What are you doing now?

After a break due to illness I went back into nursing but found it wasn’t for me. An opportunity to move into family mediation came along and I took it. The BSc (Hons) Psychology degree was a perfect fit for me to move into this area and has helped me to become a self-employed family mediator.

What were the main reasons you took that course?

I initially trained as nurse but due to my illness I was unable to carry on in this field, so was looking for another pathway and found this course fitted the bill. Plus it helped develop me professionally.

Why did you choose to study the course at the University of Derby?

As soon as I visited the University I liked it - it felt right for me! Plus the staff  were friendly and it was local to my home.

Jane Montague is a marvel, not distant, very helpful, supportive and calming.

What impact has studying this course at Derby had on your career?

Simple – it changed my life, has made me feel useful and now I’m able to help others.

How do you feel the University has helped you in your career so far?

As mentioned before, it’s changed my life and my career as I’m now a self-employed mediator which gives me the flexibility I’m enjoying.
