Nathan Pearson, Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, 2009
Nathan graduated in 2009 from our Civil and Infrastructure Engineering course. He set up Pearsons Engineering Services Ltd based in Heanor, Derbyshire in 2007 and is the Managing Director. It's a railway maintenance company specialising in the inspection, repair and maintenance of railway infrastructure and the installation of new railway facilities.
The business has recently been awarded a five year track maintenance contract at Drax Power Station based in North Yorkshire.
Nathan said “This is definitely a milestone achievement, successfully winning the tender against a number of other well established companies. The future is indeed very bright for Pearsons Engineering Services Ltd.”
What were the main reasons you took that course?
- To better my career.
- The company I was previously employed at were paying for me to take the course.
Why did you choose to study the course at the University of Derby?
It had a good reputation and as the University was close to my home it worked well for me. Plus the University offer great support to students who study whilst working.
What impact has studying this course at Derby had on your career?
It's given me a greater knowledge of engineering and in particular Infrastructure engineering which has helped me develop my own business.
How did the lecturers inspire you?
They gave me the enthusiasm to learn more.
How do you feel the University has helped you in your career so far?
It's helped by providing ongoing support and involvement over the last five years.
What are your future plans?
Continue to grow my business Pearsons Engineering Services Ltd.
