Greg Bowler, Information Technology, 2012

Greg Bowler graduated from BSc (Hons) Information Technology degree course in 2012.

He tells us why he chose to live “his own dream instead of someone else’s” by setting up his own business Bright Flair.

Time at Derby

Greg chose to study at the course at Derby as he liked what it had to offer, in particular the programming element, the experienced lecturers and the placement year option.

Greg said:” It was during my placement I decided work for myself and become a freelance software developer which led me to develop a software project for my final year dissertation.

“Through a funding scheme managed by the University’s business incubation unit, Evolve, I was successful in applying for £2500 from the Enterprise Inc project. The funding is aimed at final year students or recent graduates with a business start-up idea ready to be converted into a real business.

Living his dream

“I used the bursary to set up my own business Bright Flair, which offers bespoke software to small businesses. Making those all-important first impressions are essential as it gives my customers’ confidence in my business and helps build my profile.

“I’m keen to drive Bright Flair forward and am already planning the second phase of its business development; email cloud serving."
