Laura Swanwick
Laura graduated in 2007 with a BA (Hons) Media Studies degree and this is where her journey began.
Laura said:"The subject was so varied and I got a lot out of it; there were lots of opportunities and tasters which helped me decide on what I wanted to focus on after I graduated."
From student ambassador to professional marketeer.
"Whilst studying I worked for Aim Higher and as a student ambassador for the University. These roles really gave me a taste for the higher education sector and I realized I wanted to work in the sector in the future, as I enjoyed working with students.
My professional career started when I secured a position in the Education Liaison team followed by my current role of Marketing Officer. Both roles promote university life to potential students and are based in the Central Marketing department at the University."
When Laura's not marketing she's performs in an American style marching band
Laura explains: "I've performed with the Kidsgrove Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps,an American style marching band, for the last 14 years. We've travelled across the UK and Europe and for our 100 year celebrations this year we're going to America to perform in a big marching show.
The experiences I've gained from both the course and working at the University has helped me to publicise and promote the band.
I'm responsible for the management of the website and all social media for the band helping to promote to attract sponsorship from the local business community."
Future plans
Laura concludes:"I'd like to progress my career in marketing as this is where my passions lies. I'd like to stay in the higher education sector as I enjoy the interaction with the students and the communication aspect of my role."
