About this module

This module will appeal to a wide range of healthcare professionals who utilise medical imaging in their clinical practice and wish to undertake an in-depth review of an aspect of imaging technology.

The aim of this work based module is to enable you to explore in depth new or emerging technologies that directly or indirectly influence your practice. It will allow you to apply new knowledge, and build on the skills you have developed during practice, to ensure the optimum use of such technologies in your own clinical specialty.

The advanced practice of imaging requires applied knowledge of the principles utilised in recent technological developments. This module focuses on your contribution to the development of the service in your particular area of practice and as such the indicative content will be negotiated on an individual basis.

You will evaluate the needs of your own area of practice in order to identify a technological development for detailed study. On completion of your review of relevant literature, you will disseminate your findings to a target audience (perhaps your staff team or managers) via a suitable method such as a poster, learning package or verbal presentation etc.

With a total of 200 total learning hours, this module utilises a learning contract supported by online learning material as a flexible platform for independent study. Contact will be maintained on an individual ad hoc basis via e mail and telephone tutorials but with specified mandatory contact in approval of the learning contract and at the mid point of the module.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the module you will be able to:

  1. Evaluate the needs of your area of practice in order to identify a technological development for detailed study.
  2. Critically evaluate the chosen development including appraisal of its place and implementation in clinical practice.
