"The point of making something is that it can be interpreted in multiple ways. The more ways it can be interpreted and the more complicated the journey to get to that interpretation, the better the work may be." Ryan Gander
This multifaceted approach to creating work lies at the heart of my own practice.
Often made using strict mathematical systems, in addition to principles derived from numerous other disciplines, it is my belief, that from a process of critical analysis and layering of information that research based art is produced.
References that are key to my practice include; Russian Constructivism, cutting edge science, the history of mathematics and its related systems, Islamic mosaics, quasicrystals and the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat, amongst many others.
I aim to create work that is accessible to the viewer in a number of different ways, without giving too much of myself away. It is this struggle, to achieve a balance between both sharing and restricting information within the work I produce, that is perhaps most visible throughout my practice.
