Antoinette Burchill is a visual artist, performer and curator. Her practice utilises alternative identities in order to misachieve. She defines misachievement as achievement acquired by mischievous means. The artworks, performances and events she creates are playful, edgy and provocative, and are underpinned by a sense of adventure.

The MisAchievement work can be characterised by the archetype of The Fool. A character located both on the inside and on the periphery. A wry observer and social commentator with the ability to speak truthfully and plainly, doing so with a playful wit and humour.

Over the last year she has extended her practice into street theatre, and now works collaboratively with The Delegates. Recent performances include Mintfest, Widcombe Rising, The Banquet Tour and Masquepony. On 22 September The Delegates will present Circuit Training 'Yesterday's Games Tomorrow' at Derby Festé.

As a freelancer she has delivered several major projects including the On Your Bike - the Pedal Powered Parties and, as a guest curator: Light Relief, the autumn/winter 2012 season of exhibitions at Royal Derby Hospital.

She will talk about her practice, alongside developing a portfolio freelance career in the arts; and how developing a performative aspect to your practice can increase employment opportunities.

Antoinette Burchill graduated from the University of Derby with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 1998; she is currently a scholarship student at Loughborough University on the MA Art and the Public Sphere.
