Will Hill invited to give BERG Research Seminar
Date: 18th May 2011,
Time: 4-5 pm
Venue: Room N103, Kedleston Road Campus.
The lecture will consider the close association that has traditionally existed between architecture and the letter crafts, and the impact that current media technologies have had upon this relationship. It will look at typography in relation to successive phases of architectural design philosophy, in particular examining the influence of architects including Venturi and Jencks upon experimental typography in the 1980s and the reappraisal of vernacular traditions, eclecticism and referentiality. It will also consider the role of letters and language in the built environment, encompassing a range of environmental contexts from wayfinding systems to public artworks.
This lecture is open to all.
