Preparatory Course for Postgraduate study in Engineering
Why choose this course?
Our preparatory course is not compulsory, but it's important because it's a bridge between your undergraduate degree and masters programme, allowing you to revise what you know, and get up to date with the software packages you'll be using.
About the course
The course runs for six weeks from June to August.
When you've finished this course, you'll be able to:
- study and communicate effectively at postgraduate level, and take responsibility for your own personal and professional development
- use various professional and practical skills to solve design problems
- appreciate the advanced level of understanding you'll need to study for a Masters in Sustainable Design and Innovation.
You'll be taught using a mixture of lectures and tutorials, and online exercises. And if English is not your first language, you'll have the chance to improve your writing and speaking skills.
What you'll cover
This module will take you 300 hours to complete.
You'll need to submit two pieces of coursework:
-
Assignment one
You'll produce a 1,500 word critical report about a contemporary engineering issue. This project will involve discussions, groupwork, and your own research.
-
Assignment two
This assignment will assess your ability to analyse and solve an engineering problem that's associated with your specialism using your mathematical and engineering knowledge and understanding.
