Saira Lloyd artist of Horizontal
Saira Lloyd graduated in 2007 with an MA ADAPT. She came to the University as a mature student with a scientific background.
Saira said, "There are a wide range of possibilities and options at Derby and Derby has embraced my different background in science in a positive way and was open minded and encouraging."
After graduating Saira worked as an indiviudal practitioner and then decided to recruit other like minded artists to form a group with a shared vision of quality and content. The result of this was the female artist collobration Horizontal, who have just launched their first exhibition.
She is also involved in creating activity in the East Midlands and puts together festivals and exhibitions. Saira's future plans include exhibiting with Horizontal at the Synapse Festival in the East Midlands. And she is launching a major residency at the New Art Exchange Nottingham called "The Mirror and the Void" which is a project that deals with science, culture and art. Here Saira will be the main artist alongside two others.
Saira wanted to share her thoughts and said, "My experience at Derby has been challenging and has allowed for the discovery of my own drive. I have learnt to believe in myself and engage with my work at a level where I have been able to build my confidence and my strength of character."
She noted that Derby is an excellent place to be an artist and you gain experience from a huge variety of people with different perspectives and backgrounds.
