I would definitely take my placement again and would recommend that every student tried as hard as possible to secure a suitable placement, it will give you invaluable experience and sets you up for moving into the professional world.
Even if you don't secure a job offer from your placement, if you have this type of work experience on your CV it is impressive for prospective employers and shows you are dedicated and serious about a career in that field. My internship also provided me with a very good letter of recommendation and has opened many doors for me in the future.
What did you get out of doing the DPP?
From my placement I not only enhanced the skills gained at University such as computer skills, presentation and design, but gained skills the University just can't offer such as how to interact professionally with clients from entrepreneur to famous film directors or 'first time' clients.
I learned how to contribute to a very high standard professional team confidently and professionally. I also learned things about how to specify suitable materials and became very familiar with products and construction processes.
I am now confident when speaking to contractors and material reps in asking for what I want and making it happen. Being part of a professional team is crucial to understanding the design process from first meetings to finished designs.
